book review

There is something about fall and the crisp air that just makes me want to curl up with a great book and a cup of coffee in the morning. I used to LOVE starting my Saturday with a great book. Over the past few years, my morning book tradition has evolved. bb and I always start our mornings reading on the couch. Up until this point, it has been me reading to her. But lately, she wants to read quietly on her own after a book or two. So I have been sitting right next to her reading my book and it is glorious.

I am always looking for a new great book to read. So I thought I would share the last few books I read and what I thought! I read all kinds of genres, fiction and non-fiction, so I included everything! The reviews are in order from my favorite to least favorite…

Astrophysics for People in a Hurry

Ok, I understand this type of book is not for everyone, but I think EVERYONE should read this book. I was sucked in by the first sentence and literally read the whole book (it is short but dense) in the first few hours of our flight to Hawaii. Every few pages I would tap Blake on the shoulder saying “omg, did you know…” It made me think and it made me want to learn more. I love a book that makes your brain work and leaves you hungry for more.

Sharp Objects

Soooo good! Loved, loved, loved this one. I have not watched the show yet, but I give the book a 10. One of the best books I have read in a while. It was dark and disturbing but really well written and a book I wanted to lose sleep over.

The Good Daughter

Really good, but terribly sad. Not for the faint of heart. The opening scene is graphic and disturbing and I sobbed like a baby. I used to be able to handle sad reads a lot better. Since bb, I have a really hard time reading books like this. I was warned by a friend that it was one of those books that chills you to your bones and I had to text her for encouragement to get me through it. But it was a really, really great book and I am happy I kept reading.

Crazy Rich Asians

Fun, quick beach read. I give it a thumbs up for sure. I read it in Hawaii and flew through it. BUT, I did not love it enough to keep going with the series right away. I think I will pick up the second one on my next beach trip. I needed something a little more substantial when I was done with it.

The Woman in the Window

Creepy and entertaining but just another crazy lady genre book. If you liked Girl on the Train (which I honestly was not a fan of) or any similar books, you will like this one.

The Wife Between Us

Aside from one little twist, this books booooored me. It was a quick read and entertaining but just felt like another Woman in the Window, Girl on the Train, etc. crazy lady genre book. I think I am done with that whole genre.

Origin

I have always been a fan of Dan Brown books. They’re entertaining and quick reads. But to be completely honest, this one bored me. The whole premise was this major discovery that would shake the world and we waited the entire book to find out what it was. The only reason I kept reading was to find out what it was, and I was seriously underwhelmed with the end.

I am always, always, always looking for a great book to add to my list, so please send any recommendations my way!

xoxo, happy saturday!
