The right bag can make me feel like I can rule the world. Not really, but it makes me feel like I can leave the house in the most blah outfit and still feel put together. But the catch, they’re crazy expensive and seem to get more expensive every day. So figuring out how and where to find designer bags for less is everything.

If you’re like me, paying full price for something is REALLLLY hard. Before a big investment, I always scour the internet for the best deal. But the reality of designer handbags is, they don’t go on sale often, if ever. So going the pre-owned route is your best option.

So here are 6 tips for how to shop for a preowned bag.

(1) now is the time to be picky

Preowned can mean a lot of different things. In the case of my newest love, the blush Fendi from Preobags, it was preowned but never used. It still had the tags on, in fact. But preowned ranges from gently used to bags that look rough AF. So now is the time to be extra attentive to detail and really know what you are getting.

(2) pick a place that authenticates it’s bags

This seems like it should be obvious, but SOOO many preowned retailers do no sort of real authentication of their bags. Nowadays, dupes look really convincing. So find a place that authenticates.

(3) buy in person if you can or make sure you see a picture from every angle

There is nothing worse than paying a whole months rent on a bag that has a huge stain on the inside or scratches all over. From one angle it might look new and pristine, but really be a trainwreck. So make sure you see the front, sides, back, bottom, inside and a close up of the hardware!

(4) understand the return policy

A lot of sites sell their preowned bags final sale OR have a very short window for return. So thoroughly read the return policy before you take the plunge.

(5) evaluate the price

Make sure you do some market research before you cash out. Make sure the price they are asking is the going rate across the web. While 30% off might sound great, that still might be WAY more than other preowned retailers are selling it for across the web! So thoroughly vet the price tag.

(6) consider a trade in

Dying for a new bag but can’t stomach the price? Consider trading in a bag you hardly use. Many preowned bag retailers, like Preobags, sell AND buy designer bags. So trade in an old one for the one you really love and will use!

I have been in the market for a light colored bag for Spring. But right now, a full priced designer bag was not in the budget for me. To be honest, (I always want to be 1000% honest and upfront about sponsored content) until Preobags approached me about a partnership, I had never owned a preowned bag. The thought of finding a reputable retailer was daunting and I was afraid of ending up with a fake I paid $$$$ for. After one trip to their store, I was sold and wondering why I always pay full price for my bags.

But my favorite thing about Preobags is how personal their service can be. If you are looking for a specific type of bag (brand, style, color, you name it!) they will contact you as soon as that type of bag comes in the door! Best sellers like Chanel bags fly out the door the second they are listed. So being able to request a certain type of bag is everything! They get all types of designer bags from Chanel to Gucci, Prada to Fendi and everything inbetween! From almost brand new with tags, to gently used, they have bags available at every price point.

Their authentication method is meticulous. So I never once questioned the authenticity of their bags. They even have a machine that tests the material and stitching!
