I might make a bold statement and say this is the best sale of the year. at the very least, it is tied with the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. WHAT I BOUGHT
I usually buy an investment dress for spring break every year, a few fun accessories, and shoes! I have been eyeing the platform docs for a while now, so I jumped on the 25% off! I am so excited to wear them with this loveshackfancy dress. I wore my biker shorts to death at the end of the summer, so I bought two new pairs. a basic black and then a fun leopard pair! I plan to live in those this summer. then I bought this cute set, and a statement pair of earrings! I am really trying to rewear my favorite summer pieces from years past, instead of buying a whole new wardrobe. so I figure a fun new pair of earrings can dress up an old look…
WHAT I BOUGHT LAST YEAR
last year I STOCKED up on denim shorts! I bought these, these and these (they are all still available and on sale again this year!) and I literally lived in denim shorts all summer. now is the time to get some for summer! I bought my favorite dress from last year, a black and white loveshackfancy that I sadly only got to wear twice :(. it was left in a hotel room, and never to be seen again after repeated calls to the hotel. so I bought an all white one this year!
BASICS
this year I bought a few black basic tanks for summer (btw can we talk about how the tube top is back?! I am very into it…and obviously had to buy this one), last year I bought a couple pairs of APLs which are the BEST sneakers I have ever owned and I am never going back to another brand. but think about the basics you need! this sale is great for tanks, tshirts, little black dresses, sneakers, swimsuits, etc! stock up on what you need

I told myself that I was not going to make ANY new clothing purchases while we were living at my parents. I tell myself things like this all the time, but then I see a great deal and it doesn’t last. But with the exception of one Zara purchase, a white sequins dress, which actually was a necessity because I forgot to pack a Christmas dress, I actually went that whole time without shopping! I am very proud of myself.
When we moved in I told myself I was downsizing my wardrobe by 75%. That’s a really tall order for me. So far, I have cut my closet in HALF! And I plan to do one more round of cuts and get to my target, 1/4 of what I started with.
I am only two days into my freshly cleaned closet, but so far I can tell you that it is 1 million times easier to get dressed every day when I can actually see what I have. As I was purging I also decided on a few new things I want to invest in, to round out my closet. One of which is a nice new black leather jacket. I think this is a closet staple. Everyone should own a leather jacket they feel REALLLLY good in!
I love my leather jacket, but it does not fit right. I keep holding onto it because I haven’t replaced it, but it is time. I bought my leather jacket when we were in Barcelona, and I was 2 months postpartum. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was not back to my normal size. So the jacket is a tad big on me now and just doesn’t have the fit I want. Lucky for me, there are insane sales going on right now! So it’s time to buy one that actually fits. I am going to hold onto my old one and throw it into my maternity box! For the next time around.

]]>I have fully embraced suburbia and for the first time in 7 years, I didn’t do my holiday shopping downtown. Last week my sister and I had a sisters day. Every year on our birthdays we treat each other to a day of pampering. Shopping + the spa + food, literally all the things that make me happy. This year we went to the Burr Ridge Village Center and shopped our hearts out then relaxed like queens at the Kohler Spa. I miss the city terribly, but I have to say that pulling my car into one (FREE!) parking spot and leaving it there for hours without fear of being ticketed or towed was glorious. All the shops were NEXT to each other and it was not insanely crowded. The selection of shops was amazing and the spa was the cherry on top.
They have a little bit of everything, smaller boutiques and big name stores like Victoria’s Secret and Loft. Here were the favorite shops!
Kelley Cawley is the cutest little boutique and carries the best selection of shoes. I was supposed to be shopping for my Christmas gifts and obviously left with a new pair of booties and I am still thinking about the pair I didn’t get. They also have an amazing selection of denim. I picked out the cutest leopard booties as a gift, but want to keep them for myself!
I love gifting wine, and they have the best winery there, Cooper’s Hawk Winery! It’s also a restaurant, so you can pop in for a gift and stay for lunch. I always have a hand full of wines on hand as hostess gifts throughout the holidays.
I love J Jill for basics! I went in looking for a gift for my mom, and walked out with this cashmere sweater for myself. I’ve worn it twice already and there is no end in sight. It is so cozy, the perfect length and goes with EVERYYYYTHING. I wore it with leather pants and heels to a holiday party last week and yesterday with leggings and my APLs. It is definitely going to be a closet staple this winter. It’s perfect as a Christmas gift, who doesn’t love cashmere?
They have some great restaurants and a Hampton Social. We used to live around the corned from the Hampton Social in the city, so it feels a little like home in there! We took a shopping break for a snack and glass of wine.
This is the second year in a row I have gone to Kohler on my birthday and it is amazing. I am a bit of a spa snob, and Kohler meets + exceeds my high expectations. In my perfect world, I am one of those people that gets a weekly massage. If and when that happens, this is my place. I posted my gift guide for tricky people last week and spa + mani/pedi’s gift cards made it onto two categories! Kohler is the perfect place to send your loved ones. *hint hint if you’re buying me a gift this year ;).

These Moncler boots have been on my wishlist for a long time. But I promised myself that I would not make any big purchases until we are officially in our new house. I currently have a little sticker shock after starting to hunt for new furniture. So all of my pennies are going in the “furnish my house” piggy bank.
I went into Target last week, for one thing per usual, and found myself in the shoe section because, why not? And I could not leave without these. You know I have a love/hate relationship with cheap shoes. So I promise I will NEVER ever post a pair of discount shoes without wearing them for at least a full day because they are always hit or miss. But these were so cute that I had to give them a shot, and they are $39, so you can’t beat that! I wore them yesterday and had to put them on again today because they were so comfy + cute. So I can officially endorse them fully! I have a feeling they will be my go-to fuzzy boots this season.

I live for fall shoes. Honestly, all summer long, I track the trends and think about which shoes I am going to invest in come fall. I usually get a new pair of boots (or 3, whoops), a pair of flats and a pair of heels.
I’ve said this before, so I will spare you the lecture, but shoes are an area where $$$ really talks. Cheap shoes just do not last like the pricier ones. Last fall I bought a handful of shoes, definitely more than I needed. Of the shoes I bought, the two pairs I am still reaching for a year later are the ones I invested in. My Gucci slides and the leopard Sandro booties, pictured above. I am mad about all that lost $ I spent on shoes that I am just going to donate this year. So I am determined to not let that happen this season.
I am constantly reevaluating my shopping habits and trying to learn from my mistakes the season before. This season, I am getting ONE pair of boots (my mom also got me the white Something Navy booties and I am ooooobsessed with them, so I guess two if you count that) and a pair of heels, that is it. I know my birthday is coming up too, so I factor that into my shopping plan.
There are so many fun trends right now, as always. I love that the square toe is back in! Animal prints of all kinds are in, leopard, snake skin, you name it. Cowboy boots, yes please and combat boots, I will always and forever be a huge fan of both of those! But I need to assess what I have that already covers those trends and figure out what new shoes I am going to invest in. I also always try to pick my favorite trends this season but that won’t be an 100% out by next year. So here are the trends I have been stalking and LOVE right now…
LEOPARD
Obviously a fan of this one. I basically wear black from November-April…so a fun leopard print shoe breaks up my monochrome wardrobe.
WHITE BOOTIES
Last year I wasn’t quite ready to hop on this trend. But now I am fully onboard and so happy about it. I’ve been living in my white booties and cannot wait to style some winter white outfits with them come Winter.
KITTEN HEEL MULES
You guys know how obsessed I am with my M Gemi Lasso mules. I’ve already styled them a bazillion ways. They come in black and nude and I CANNOT recommend them enough. When the kitten heel came back in style I honestly rolled my eyes. Ew, I am not a grandma yet, was my initial reaction. But this trend is another one that has seriously worn me down. This is my splurge pick this season. Fendi, Dior, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga, Gucci, Prada…they all have an insanely swoon worthy pair of kitten mules out this season, I die. They are all SO good. And the great thing about the kitten heel, it is insanely practical. I’ve styled up my M Gemis for date night, worn them all over the city for errands, and just about everything in between.

]]>First, long gone are the days when I could take an hour to get ready. I consider myself VERY lucky if I get to wash my hair 2 times during the week. Wash my hair AND dry it at the same time and I am riding on easy street. Hence lots of air dried hairstyles and beauty hacks. You can read how to get effortless beach waves without a blow dryer in THIS post.
In terms of outfitting, I started organizing my closet in a new way. I have always kept my closet color coordinated and separated by type. Tee shirts lumped together in color order, then long sleeves, then blouses, then sweaters, etc. But lately, I added a new section to my closet. You could call it the greatest hits or current top 10 section of my closet. Those items that I am loving, know look good every time I put them on and are really, really, ridiculously easy to style. When push comes to shove and I have taken the entire hour I usually allot to getting ready picking out which princess dress bb should wear, I know I can head to the section of that closet and get ready in 1 minute tops.
This new method of closet organizing has also inspired me to shop differently. If I cannot envision any given item styled at least 3 different ways, I do not buy it. I need practical pieces that are comfy, easy to wear, suited to mom life but still trendy and fun.
If you have seen me in the last month, you know that THIS $26 Zara shirt is not just in my top 10, but my literal #1 right now. It meets all my criteria. Comfy AF, easy to wear, easy to mom in, can be dressed up, and it is still trendy & cute. I am loving metallics right now, loving oversized tees and LOOOOOVING all things Zara, per usual.
When in doubt, I throw on this tee + my favorite pair of leggings. It literally works for all occasions. Date night, brunch, errands, moming, you name it. I need more items in my closet exactly like this.
Three outfits, exactly the same top + leggings just accessorized three different ways….getting dressed should always be this easy.
