How to wear florals this fall

When I usually think of floral, I think of spring. But, floral patterns can work for fall too. I really want to jump on the floral trend this fall. Like seasons past, they are sure to be seen everywhere. Florals are feminine and fun and I want to wear them. But, I have a really hard time wearing florals and not feeling like a toddler. They can feel preppy, very Martha’s vineyard, or too child-like, three things I would not like to define my fall style. But, florals don’t have to be cutesie, they can be a bit edgy too.

When I saw THIS floral skirt, for $39!!!, I wanted it in my fall wardrobe. But, when I tried it on, I kind of felt like a pre-teen. I bought it anyway and thought I could find some things in my closet to edge it up.

I ended up pairing it with boots, a vest, a graphic t, and berry lips. I like how the soft floral pattern contrasts with the more edgy boots, creating a modern, but still feminine, look.

Here are three other ways to incorporate florals this fall:

(1) Add texture: pair a base layer of floral with leather or fur layers, adding a bit of texture

(2) Grunge it up: pair a floral dress with tights and a beanie

(3) Go Sleek: floral can be sophisticated too, pair with sock booties, making a more sleek, evening look

(4) Mix prints: go for it and pair a floral print with stripes or leopard
